Allan Tai is a cultural entrepreneur, DJ, instructor, performer, and event organizer based in Nairobi, Kenya. As the current Chairperson of the Kizomba Kenya Association (KKA), he leads an organization dedicated to the growth, preservation, and professionalization of Kizomba music and dance in Kenya, while connecting local dancers to global communities. A pioneer of Afro-Latin dance in East Africa since 2009, Allan has represented Kenya in numerous international competitions and congresses, sharing his knowledge and passion with audiences worldwide. He continues to teach across all skill levels, organize social events and festivals, and cultivate spaces where art, community, and professionalism intersect. Through The Nairobi Dance Project, Allan spearheads initiatives that train and mentor professional instructors, performers, and competitors, while creating platforms for collaboration and performance. The project has become a benchmark for excellence in teaching, choreography, and artistic innovation, helping to professionalize Kenya’s dance ecosystem. Beyond performance, Allan stands at the crossroads of cultural preservation and economic innovation. His work addresses a central paradox of African arts: why cultural forms like Kizomba achieve global popularity but yield limited value for their communities of origin. By developing programs such as “Entrepreneurship & Financial Literacy Training for Dancers” in Nairobi, he demonstrates how dance can serve as a catalyst for job creation, skills development, and cultural sustainability. Allan’s vision moves beyond chasing individual success stories to building resilient, interconnected creative ecosystems across Africa, a model that values sustainability, collaboration, and shared growth over fleeting recognition. In this, he has emerged as one of Africa’s leading voices for sustainable creative industries, championing cultural ownership, economic empowerment, and artistic integrity for future generations.
