Originally from Guinea-Bissau, West Africa, Miguel grew up in Lisbon, Portugal, where he started to develop an interest for Afro Cuban style dance. At the age of 13, he found his talent and started taking his hobby more seriously. He started by learning contemporary Jazz, Latin rhythm and Salsa, later moving onto more sensual styles such as Kizomba. Alongside Iris de Brito, Miguel was a leading figure and the way forward in the UK with his interpretation of Kizomba – a fusion of Argentinean Tango and Zouk (French Caribbean). Miguel’s passion for dance and love of Latin rhythm has enabled him to develop his own unique and enchanting style - the Kizomba fusion (based on musicality, choreographed steps/figures, feeling, and lead /connection).
Miguel currently performs Salsa with A Yemaya – Frank Santos’ breathtaking dance group which took the UK by storm. As a group, A Yemaya won ‘Best UK Performance 2008’ from Salsa Central and is performing at numerous venues and congresses over the world.
Miguel performed his amazing Kizomba choreography with his then dance partner Iris de Brito, who is one of the biggest talents on the UK salsa scene – twice UK Salsa champion. Since 2009, he has partnered up Marlene Almeida, from Portugal, and for the last 7 years they have been one of the best Kizomba teachers around Europe and beyond.
In 2013, Miguel moved to Germany seeking to share his knowledge and passion for Kizomba, going on to establish himself as the main Kizomba teacher in and around Germany. He is also a co-organiser of Sabura Kizomba festival.
Miguel teaches various styles across the world, including LA Cross Body on 1, New York Mambo on 2, Puerto Rican style, Cuban style, Cha cha cha, Bachata, Kizomba, Samba, Funana and some of the African rhythms.
